Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta and a social media powerhouse, recently shared his thoughts on Apple’s Vision Pro and Meta Quest 3. Initially, Zuckerberg had anticipated that the Quest would offer better value compared to the Vision Pro. However, after personally trying out both devices, he boldly stated that not only is the Quest a better value, but it also outperforms the Vision Pro in terms of overall product quality.

In a video shared on Instagram, Zuckerberg showcased the Meta Quest 3’s capabilities, highlighting features such as high-quality passthrough video and a wide range of compatible apps, similar to those available on the Vision Pro. One key aspect that Zuckerberg emphasized was the Quest 3’s ergonomic design, specifically its weight. He mentioned that the Quest 3 is 120g lighter than the Vision Pro, making it more comfortable to wear for extended periods. Additionally, Zuckerberg praised the Quest’s wider field of view and brighter screen, further solidifying his preference for the Quest over the Vision Pro.

Zuckerberg also pointed out noticeable differences in performance between the two devices. He criticized the Vision Pro for having significant motion blur during movement, while highlighting the Quest’s sharper display quality. Although acknowledging that the Vision Pro boasts higher screen resolution, Zuckerberg believed that the Quest’s overall comfort and display clarity outweighed this particular feature. He commended the Quest’s hand tracking accuracy but acknowledged Apple’s superior eye tracking capabilities, hinting at potential future upgrades for the Quest.

Looking ahead, Zuckerberg speculated on the future of AR and VR technology, hinting at the possibility of neural interfaces becoming essential components for a complete AR/VR experience. He emphasized the importance of open technology platforms, using Microsoft’s PC model as an example. Despite lauding Apple’s Vision Pro interface, Zuckerberg advocated for a more open and inclusive approach to AR/VR development, drawing parallels to Microsoft’s past struggles with antitrust issues.

One undeniable factor that sets the Quest 3 apart from the Vision Pro is the significant price difference. With the Quest 3 priced at $499 and the Vision Pro retailing for $3,499, the devices cater to vastly different consumer markets. Regardless of the price gap, Zuckerberg humorously acknowledged the potential awkwardness of wearing either device in public, suggesting that both devices may prompt curious glances and raised eyebrows from onlookers.

Zuckerberg’s candid comparison of Meta Quest 3 and Apple Vision Pro sheds light on the nuanced differences between the two devices. While each device has its unique strengths and weaknesses, Zuckerberg’s inclination towards the Quest 3 showcases a personal preference for comfort, performance, and the potential for future advancements in AR/VR technology. As the tech industry continues to evolve, the competition between closed and open tech ecosystems remains a focal point for innovation and consumer choice.
