As a result, Fallout 4, the latest installment in the main series, has experienced a significant boost in popularity this month, drawing in tens of thousands of players eager to embark on the post-apocalyptic adventure once more.
Despite the renewed interest in the Fallout series, fans eagerly anticipating the next installment, Fallout 5, may have a considerable wait ahead of them. In an interview with Bethesda Game Studios’ Todd Howard, it was confirmed that the development plans for Fallout 5 remain unchanged. While the game is in development, its release will not occur until after the launch of Elder Scrolls 6. With neither game currently boasting a firm release date, the timeline for the arrival of Fallout 5 appears to be quite distant based on the development cycles of Bethesda’s previous titles.
Considering the timeline provided by Xbox boss Phil Spencer regarding the release of Elder Scrolls 6 being at least “five plus years away,” it is safe to assume that Fallout 5 will not see the light of day until well into the next decade. If Bethesda follows a similar development schedule to their previous releases, fans may not get their hands on Fallout 5 until 2030 or later. This extended timeframe is undoubtedly daunting to contemplate, especially when considering the rapid evolution of the gaming industry and the potential waning of interest in the Fallout series by that time.
Todd Howard has made it clear that, despite the anticipation surrounding Fallout 5, Elder Scrolls 6 remains the primary focus for Bethesda.
