Kia has officially unveiled the finalized version of its EV3 small electric SUV, marking a significant milestone in the world of electric vehicles. This futuristic concept vehicle is set to launch in South Korea this July, followed by a release in Europe in the second half of the year. While a US launch is confirmed, specific timing has yet to be announced.
One of the most exciting features of the EV3 is the integration of AI technology. Kia will be the first production EV to feature a voice-activated AI assistant, expanding on the system initially introduced in the Kia K4. This advanced assistant, based off ChatGPT, has been heavily modified to offer users the ability to plan trips, find entertainment, and more. The launch of this feature will first take place in Korea before expanding to Europe.
The EV3 boasts an impressive estimated driving range of 600km (373 miles) based on the European WLTP system. It is important to note that the US EPA estimate may vary as it typically falls lower. The long-range model of the EV3 features an 81.4kWh battery, with a “Standard” model also in the works with a 58.3kWh battery. Additionally, Kia will be introducing a sportier “GT-line” model for those seeking a more dynamic driving experience.
Inside the EV3, drivers can expect a host of advanced tech features. The vehicle is equipped with a dual-screen setup, featuring two 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment system, a five-inch panel for HVAC controls, and a 12-inch heads-up display. Premium streaming apps are built into the system, courtesy of LG’s webOS-based auto platform. Users also have the option to download themes for the dashboard, including unique NBA-inspired designs.
The exterior design of the EV3 draws inspiration from the larger Kia EV9, showcasing a boxy and spacious aesthetic. The interior is designed to comfortably seat five passengers, with ample storage space for personal items like backpacks and a sliding table for laptops. Despite the lack of a front gas engine, the EV3 includes a 25-liter frunk, although relatively small compared to traditional models.
