Among the top players in the PC market, Lenovo has maintained its lead, with a market share of 22.7% in the second quarter of 2024. HP follows closely behind with a 21.1% market share, while Dell has slipped slightly to 15.5%. The dominance of Lenovo can be attributed to the growing popularity of laptops over desktops, with laptops outselling desktops at a rate of about 2.5 to one. Lenovo’s strength in the laptop segment, including gaming laptops, has helped solidify its position at the top of the market.

While the larger brands like Lenovo, HP, and Apple have seen growth in PC sales, smaller brands as a group have experienced a slight decline. This trend suggests that the growth in the PC market is primarily driven by a few key players rather than the broader industry. IDC’s report also highlights the increasing interest in AI-powered PCs, which are expected to drive sales further in the coming months. However, the report also cautions against excessive optimism, noting that the PC market still faces challenges due to maturity and external factors.
