The highly anticipated Mortal Kombat sequel has been making waves since the announcement of its release date in October of 2025. The series co-creator and director of Mortal Kombat 1, Ed Boon, recently shared the first look at the upcoming movie. Boon revealed that he saw an “unfinished cut” and humorously mentioned that he grabbed the image from the phone of the movie’s producer, Todd Garner. Todd Garner even responded to this reveal in an exchange on social media.

The image shared by Boon features one of Kitana’s trademark steel fans, which serve as her weapons in the iconic fighting game series. In the sequel, the role of Kitana will be portrayed by Adeline Rudolph, known for her work in Riverdale and Resident Evil. Alongside Rudolph, other new cast members in Mortal Kombat 2 include Karl Urban as Johnny Cage (The Boys), Damon Herriman as Quan Chi (Justified), and Martyn Ford as Shao Khan (F9: The Fast Saga).

Mark your calendars for October 24th, 2025, as Mortal Kombat 2 is set to debut in cinemas. This highly anticipated sequel follows the success of the original movie, which introduced a new character named Cole Young, portrayed by Lewis Tan. The first installment of the Mortal Kombat series premiered in 2021, both in theatres and on HBO, and managed to rake in $42 million domestically and $83 million worldwide.

With the first look at the Mortal Kombat sequel now out in the open, fans of the franchise are eagerly anticipating the movie’s release. The glimpse of Kitana’s steel fan has generated excitement and speculation about what the sequel has in store for audiences. As we count down to October 2025, the question remains: Will you be watching Mortal Kombat 2 when it hits cinemas? And if you haven’t seen the first movie yet, now might be the perfect time to catch up on the action-packed world of Mortal Kombat.
