Recent leaks have suggested that AMD is working on two new graphics cards, the Radeon RX 7400 and RX 7300. While not much information is available about these cards yet, they are speculated to be built on the Navi 33 GPU. This news comes as a surprise in a market where the RX 7600 is currently the cheapest available option.

The RX 7400 and RX 7300 are expected to feature the same Navi 33 GPU as the RX 7600 XT, which means a maximum configuration of 2,048 cores and a 128-bit bus. However, it is likely that the actual core count in these new cards will be lower, especially considering that the RX 7600 and RX 7600 XT already utilize the full complement of cores in this GPU. This could mean that the RX 7400 and RX 7300 will have smaller core counts compared to their predecessors.

With the RX 6400 and RX 6500 XT offering only 768 and 1,024 cores respectively, it is possible that the new cards will fall in a similar range. While these core counts may seem modest, the shift from RDNA 2 to RDNA 3 architecture could still bring improvements in performance. Additionally, the pricing of the RX 7400 and RX 7300 is expected to be below $200, making them more accessible to budget-conscious consumers.

The rise of impressive integrated GPUs (iGPUs) in processors like the Ryzen 7 8700G and Ryzen 5 8600G, as well as the newer Ryzen AI 300-series ‘Strix Point’ chips, has made the case for super-budget GPUs less compelling. For those who still require discrete graphics, options like the desktop APUs with 768 or 512-core RDNA 3 GPUs could be worth considering. Additionally, the potential for a desktop version of the 1,024-core GPU found in the laptop-focused HX 370, the Radeon 890M, could offer even better performance in a budget-friendly package.

While the rumored RX 7400 and RX 7300 graphics cards show promise in providing budget-friendly options for consumers, the evolving landscape of integrated graphics and the availability of other budget-friendly GPU alternatives should also be taken into consideration. As AMD continues to innovate in the graphics card market, it will be interesting to see how these new cards stack up against the competition and meet the demands of budget-conscious gamers and PC users.
