Google Meet, the video conferencing platform, is now offering users the ability to apply filters to lightly touch up their complexion before entering a meeting. This feature was initially launched on mobile devices last year and is now being extended to the web version of Google Meet.

Users will have the option to choose from two different filters: subtle and smoothing. The subtle filter applies very light complexion smoothing, under-eye lightening, and eye whitening, while the smoothing filter enhances these effects slightly. Unlike Snapchat filters that drastically alter one’s appearance, Google’s filters aim to provide a more natural and subtle touch-up.

To access these touch-up options, users simply need to go to the Apply visual effects setting in Google Meet and select Appearance. From there, users can toggle the Portrait touch-up feature on or off and choose their preferred filter. This feature is rolling out to paid users on specific plans such as Business Standard, Enterprise Essentials, Education Plus, and more. Additionally, Google One and Google Workspace Individual subscribers will also have access to portrait touch-ups.

Google’s introduction of filters for video call touch-ups comes after competitors like Zoom and Microsoft Teams had already implemented similar features. However, Google’s approach seems to be more focused on enhancing one’s natural appearance rather than drastically changing it.

Overall, Google Meet’s new filters for video call touch-ups provide users with a subtle way to enhance their complexion before entering a meeting. With the option to choose between two different filters and toggle the Portrait touch-up feature on or off, users have the flexibility to customize their appearance based on their preferences. While Google may have been late to the face filter game in the video conferencing space, the introduction of these filters showcases their commitment to improving user experience on their platform.
