Exciting news for Call of Duty players as Activision announces significant changes to the installation process following the launch of Black Ops 6. The main goal is to reduce the overall size of the game installs, making it more manageable for players. However, before experiencing these benefits, players will have to endure larger initial updates to pave the way for the upcoming improvements.
One of the key changes is the decoupling of Call of Duty: Warzone from other titles. This means that when purchasing an annual title, players will only download the files for that specific game by default. This separation will streamline the installation process and make it more efficient for players to access their desired content without unnecessary downloads.
In addition to separate downloads, Activision is introducing expanded texture streaming features to further enhance the player experience. This new feature will allow the game to stream textures over the internet while you play, reducing the need for large initial downloads. Players will have the option to choose between an “optimized” setting for higher-fidelity visuals or a “minimal” setting for lower bandwidth requirements.
To complement these changes, the central UI of Call of Duty is also receiving a major revamp. The new interface will make it easier for players to navigate and access their favorite games, with top content featured on a single clean page without the need for scrolling. This redesign aims to provide a seamless and user-friendly experience for players.
The Season 5 Reloaded update on August 21 marks the beginning of these changes, with further optimizations leading up to the launch of Black Ops 6 in mid-October. Despite the need for larger initial downloads, the overall goal is to reduce the footprint of Call of Duty installations through file restructuring and enhancements.
For PS5 players, the installation process may be slightly more cumbersome, requiring four separate downloads due to differences in file organization. However, Activision is aware of the inconvenience and is offering a free community pack as a token of appreciation for players’ patience. This pack includes various in-game rewards to thank players for their support.
While the upcoming changes to Call of Duty installations may require some initial adjustments, the long-term benefits are expected to enhance the overall player experience.
