Fortnite’s latest season, dominated by Marvel characters and items, created quite a stir among players. From weapons inspired by War Machine’s abilities to Captain America’s iconic vibranium shield and Doctor Doom’s gauntlets, the island was flooded with all sorts of Marvel goodies. However, two items in particular, Cap’s Shield and War Machine’s Arsenal, quickly rose to prominence due to their overpowering nature. The introduction of these items led to a new meta where players either had to use them or face defeat at the hands of those who did.

Just five days into the new season, Epic Games responded to player feedback and introduced several nerfs to Captain America’s Shield and War Machine’s Arsenal. Captain America’s Shield now breaks more easily, with its damage reduced from 500 to 250. Additionally, its throw attack now deals 50 damage instead of 60, making it less effective in combat. War Machine’s Arsenal also saw adjustments, with reduced damage to structures and a longer reload time, both during automatic reload and rocket reload. The Hover Jets, however, remain unchanged.

These nerfs are expected to have a significant impact on gameplay. Players can now expect regular weapons to have a more meaningful impact on Captain America’s Shield, making it less of a dominant force in late-game scenarios. Furthermore, FNAssist reports that drop rates for these items have been reduced, making them less common to come across in-game. War Machine’s items will now drop half as often from Avengers chests and regular blue chests, while the drop chance for Captain America’s Shield has been significantly lowered from all sources.

The current season, dubbed Absolute Doom, brought forth a battle pass filled with Marvel characters and related cosmetics. Notably, two Fortnite characters, Peely and Jonesy, received Marvel-inspired makeovers. Unlike previous seasons, the items included in this battle pass will not remain exclusive to pass holders. Instead, they will be available for purchase in the item shop starting 18 months after the season concludes on November 2.

The recent nerfs to Captain America’s Shield and War Machine’s Arsenal have reshaped the meta of Fortnite’s Marvel-inspired season. These adjustments aim to create a more balanced and fair gameplay experience for all players, while also ensuring that the dominance of these powerful items is kept in check. As the season progresses, it will be interesting to see how these changes influence the overall dynamics of matches on the island.
