Despite some rumors suggesting that the next Nintendo console could be released by the end of the fiscal year in March 2025, journalist Christopher Dring has spoken to developers who believe otherwise. According to Dring, developers have been advised not to expect the new console to launch in this financial year. Instead, there is hope among some developers that the console may be released in April or May of 2025.
Eurogamer has also corroborated the information shared by Dring, stating that the next Nintendo Switch console is not expected to be released until at least April 2025. This news has come as a surprise to many, as previous expectations pointed to a release by the end of 2024 or early 2025. However, recent reports indicate that the launch date may be pushed back even further, with April 2025 being the earliest possible release window.
Nintendo’s upcoming console, rumored to be called the Switch 2, is said to bear similarities to the original Switch. This is a departure from the more significant changes seen in previous console transitions, such as the shift from the Wii U to the Switch. The original Nintendo Switch was launched in 2017 and has since seen various iterations, including the Switch Lite and the Switch OLED.
One of the key features of the upcoming console is said to be its use of Nvidia’s custom variant T239 processor. This processor is reportedly capable of running demanding games like Death Stranding at 1080p resolution while maintaining a frame rate of 35fps. This suggests that the new console will offer improved performance and graphics compared to its predecessor.
While many fans are eagerly anticipating the release of the next Nintendo console, it seems that they may have to wait a bit longer than expected. With reports pointing to a potential release date of April 2025 at the earliest, it looks like Nintendo is taking its time to ensure that the new console meets or exceeds expectations. For now, fans can only speculate on what the Switch 2 will bring to the table and look forward to any official announcements from Nintendo regarding the highly anticipated successor to the original Switch.
