Limited Run Games recently announced that the highly anticipated Gex Trilogy collection, consisting of Gex, Gex: Enter the Gecko, and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko, will be available for preorder in Autumn 2024 [Northern Hemisphere]. A new trailer aired during the LRG 2024 showcase revealed that fans will have the opportunity to preorder the game for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch, in both digital and physical formats.

While the specifics of the physical edition have not been disclosed yet, the digital release of Gex Trilogy promises to deliver three game ports enhanced for the Carbon Engine. Additionally, the collection will come with “extras and quality of life improvements to bring Gex back into prime time.” Some of the new features include visual smoothing, a rewind option, and the ability to save progress anywhere in the game.

However, there are still questions looming regarding the variations of the game that will be included in the trilogy. It is crucial to address the regional disparities in content and voice acting found in different versions of the Gex games, as well as potential console-specific differences. For instance, Gex: Enter the Gecko differed significantly between the PlayStation One and Nintendo 64 versions, featuring exclusive levels for each platform. Moreover, Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko underwent censorship for the Nintendo 64 release to maintain its kid-friendly nature, which involved toning down the romantic subplot between Gex and Agent Xtra.

Considering that Gex Trilogy is marketed as the “definitive edition” of the Gex games, fans can reasonably expect the collection to encompass all levels and features from the original trilogy, including the beloved FMV cutscenes. There is also a possibility of including previously exclusive console levels to provide a comprehensive gameplay experience for both new players and longtime fans.

Future Reveals and Launch Projections

Limited Run Games has not delved into the specifics of what Gex Trilogy will entail, leaving fans eager for more details as the preorder window approaches. Stay tuned for further updates on the upcoming release, including additional features, potential inclusions, and what to anticipate when the game finally hits the market.
