The highly anticipated John Wick spin-off, Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, has been hit with a delay of a year. Lionsgate made the announcement, shifting the film’s release date from June 7, 2024, to June 6, 2025. The delay came alongside news of Chad Stahelski, the series architect, striking a new deal to oversee the John Wick series. Stahelski is collaborating with Ballerina director Len Wiseman to enhance the film with “additional action sequences.”

In place of Ballerina’s original release date, Lionsgate’s The Crow remake, starring Bill Skarsgard, is set to debut. Described as a “modern reimagining” of the franchise, The Crow is poised to bring a fresh take on the beloved series. While Ballerina’s details remain scant, recent reports suggest that Keanu Reeves will make a cameo appearance as John Wick in the film.

Continued Expansion of the John Wick Universe

Apart from Ballerina, Chad Stahelski has expressed his interest in a potential John Wick 5, although its production remains uncertain in the ever-evolving landscape of Hollywood. The original plan to film John Wick 4 and 5 consecutively was scrapped due to Stahelski’s creative limitations. Additionally, talks are underway for a new John Wick video game, with Lionsgate hinting at the possibility of an exciting gaming experience set in the John Wick universe.

While fans eagerly await news on the upcoming John Wick video game, past ventures into gaming have paved the way for immersive experiences. In 2020, Mike Bithell released John Wick Hex, a tactics game serving as a prequel to the film series. Furthermore, John Wick has made appearances in popular titles such as Fortnite and Payday 2, showcasing the character’s widespread appeal across different mediums. The VR game John Wick Chronicles also provided players with a unique opportunity to step into the adrenaline-fueled world of the titular assassin.

The delay of Ballerina may disappoint fans, but it signifies the filmmakers’ dedication to delivering a top-tier action experience. With the promise of a new John Wick video game on the horizon and potential sequels in the works, the future looks bright for the expanding John Wick universe. As enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the next chapter in this iconic franchise, one thing remains certain – John Wick’s legacy is set to endure for years to come.
