The latest Japanese charts from Famitsu reveal an interesting trend in the video game market. Last week’s victor, Stellar Blade, has once again claimed the top position, showcasing its popularity among gamers. Surprisingly, the only non-Switch title in the list, Stellar Blade seems to have made a lasting impression on Japanese players, garnering a total of 80,164 sales so far.

Shifting Tides in the Top Ten

However, not all titles have been able to maintain their positions in the top ten. Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Sweep the Board! have dropped out of the ranks, making way for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to reclaim the spotlight and secure the second spot. It seems that in the ever-changing landscape of the gaming industry, only the most exceptional titles can hold their ground.

Endless Ocean: Luminous has managed to hold its own for a second consecutive week, pulling in an additional 6,951 sales and claiming the third position on the charts. While the sales numbers may not be groundbreaking, it is heartening to see Nintendo’s underwater adventure maintaining a presence in the highly competitive market. In contrast, the UK charts seem devoid of such variety and creativity, making the Japanese market truly stand out.

Switch OLED continues to dominate the hardware sales, with an impressive 35,575 units sold in the latest week. This places the console comfortably ahead of Sony’s PS5, which managed to sell 18,166 units. When the sales of all three Switch models are combined, the total unit sales amount to 47,064. These numbers are reassuring, especially in light of the upcoming release of the console’s successor.

The latest Famitsu charts paint a familiar yet intriguing picture of the video game industry in Japan. While some titles have managed to maintain their positions at the top, others have faced challenges and dropped out of the charts. The dominance of the Switch OLED in the hardware sales further solidifies Nintendo’s position in the market. As the industry continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how these trends shape the future of gaming.
