Naoki Yoshida, the boss of Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy 14, recently hinted at the need for a new Final Fantasy Tactics game during an interview with The Gamer. Yoshida expressed that “It’s probably about time,” for a new installment in the beloved Tactics series, much to the excitement of fans.

Yoshida mentioned that many staff members who worked on previous Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy 12 games are part of the current team, ensuring that the new game will retain that classic Tactics feel. He emphasized the team’s desire to create a fresh story that builds upon the foundation of the original games rather than simply rehashing old content.

The last main entry in the Final Fantasy Tactics series was Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift in 2007 for the Nintendo DS. Despite its popularity and demand from fans, there has been a glaring absence of a PC port of the game. While a Tactics Ogre remake was released in 2022, fans continue to yearn for a modernized version of the classic Final Fantasy Tactics on platforms like Steam.

Final Fantasy Tactics, along with Final Fantasy XII and segments of Final Fantasy 14, is set in the rich and complex world of Ivalice. This medieval, politically charged setting provides a perfect backdrop for intricate storytelling and strategic gameplay. The allure of revisiting Ivalice in a new Tactics game has reignited interest in the series and sparked hope for its revival.

As fans eagerly await a new Final Fantasy Tactics game, there is also a growing desire for other beloved Square PS1 titles to receive a modern treatment. With the recent success of Final Fantasy VII Remake, fans are hopeful that more classic games like Vagrant Story will also get the remaster treatment they deserve. The time is ripe for a resurgence of these iconic titles, giving longtime fans a chance to experience them in a fresh and updated form.

The call for a new Final Fantasy Tactics game echoes the sentiment of many fans who have cherished the series for years. With a talented team at the helm and a dedicated fan base eagerly waiting, the time is indeed right for a revival of this beloved franchise. Let’s hope that Square Enix hears the pleas of fans and brings back Final Fantasy Tactics in all its strategic glory.
